How to protect your Computer against Viruses and other Malware :--

Viruses are programs that may utilize your system resources and cause your computer to slow down greatly.

A Virus may be a program that copies itself again and again and thus utilize your systems space (hard disk).
It may even cause your Operating systems files to be deleted causing your computer to break down or work improperly.

Mainly the pen drive contains an "AUTORUN.INF" file that helps in executing the virus automatically when the pen drive is double clicked and opened.

A sample of an autorun.inf file :--

 -----------------------------------

[autorun]
open=virus_name.exe

------------------------------------

sample autorun.inf file
NOTE:
  • The autorun file is usually hidden.
  • Here "virus_name.exe" is the name of the virus.
  • And when the pen drive is opened, the autorun file causes the virus_name.exe to execute automatically.
  • The extension of the autorun file is ".inf"

In our day to day life, the main source of viruses are pen drive or any external usb drive.

Follow the following steps to disable "Autorun" :--

1. Open control Panel

Open control panel

2.  Go to "Autoplay".

Go to Autoplay
 3. Uncheck the "Use Autoplay for all media and devices".

Un-check autoplay for media and devices

Thats it.!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before opening the pen drive please delete the autorun file as instructed in the link below--
